The Centre for Geoinformatics (Z_GIS) at the University of Salzburg and the Institute for GIScience at the Austrian Academy of Sciences offer an annual forum to the worldwide Geoinformatics community bringing together English-speaking researchers and professionals across disciplines and industries.
The 5th Geoinformatics Forum Salzburg (GI_Forum 2011) runs concurrently with the highly regarded German language conference on Applied Geoinformatics – AGIT. The two symposia share the innovative AGIT EXPO exhibit and stimulating social events.
The interdisciplinary GI_Forum focuses on an international audience that shares an interest in applied Geoinformatics. We successfully attracted researchers who design, develop and apply advanced methods and techniques of Geoinformatics in various application domains. The contributions in the proceedings focus on the following topics:
- GIScience – Concepts and Ontologies
- Advances in Spatial Analysis, Geovisualization and Cartography
- Spatial Data Infrastructure and Mobile Services
- Global Change: Monitoring and Modelling
Within the GI-Forum 2011 a pre-conference workshop on ‘Spatial Assessment and Analysis of Vulnerability’ was organised by the United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and Z_GIS, University of Salzburg as a follow-up of the GI_Forum 2010 special workshop on ‘Vulnerability: Spatial Assessment and Analysis. The contributions presented at this workshop discuss GIScience applied in the interdisciplinary domain of hazard and climate change research and are published in the GI_Forum 2011 proceedings.
