Abstract:

A new semiconductor based current balancer circuit for integrated application in multiple lamp CCFL backlights is presented. This circuit facilitates driving multiple lamps by only one common power source. It provides excellent balancing quality and the capability of auto-shifting its operating point for maximum efficiency. The circuit also can recognize and indicate near balance break operating conditions. The paper also gives an analysis of the range and quality of reliable current balancing and a discussion of the key parameters for the circuit design as well as the preferred fields of application.
