This part of IEC 62271 applies to: - gas-insulated switchgear and controlgear assemblies for a.c. with rated voltages above 52 kV according to IEC 62271-203 for indoor and outdoor installation including their substructures. - metal-enclosed switchgear and controlgear assemblies for rated voltages above 1 kV and up to and including 52 kV according to IEC 62271-200 for metal-enclosed and IEC 62271-201 for solidly insulated enclosed switchgear and controlgear assemblies, earth or ground mounted, intended for use under seismic conditions. Guidance on interactions between subframes and the ground/foundations is given in 4.3.3. Seismic qualification of switchgear assemblies considers testing of typical switchgear assemblies in combination with analytical methods. The interaction between directly fixed auxiliary and control equipment and switchgear combinations is considered. The philosophy of seismic qualification includes the selection of the seismic qualification level (section 4), the methodology of qualification by testing (section 5) and by combined testing and analysis (section 6), the acceptance criteria (section 7) and the documentation of the seismic qualification (section 8). The qualification of switchgear assemblies for earthquakes is only carried out on request.
