Abstract:
An upgrade path from a hybrid fibre/copper access infrastructure to an all optical access network is presented and experimentally demonstrated. The upgrade path is based on three stages, using different multiplexing techniques. The objective of the work is to present a solution that is commercially viable by offering a gradual deployment of the optical infrastructure in order to reduce initial Capital Expenses while keeping Opperational Expenses low. Experimental tesbeds of the three stages have been implemented and analysed to corroborate the good performance of the proposed networks.
