Abstract:
In this paper we investigate the quality of a small footprint diphone-based Text-To-Speech (TTS) system, where the acoustic databases have been encoded with the Adaptive Multi Rate Narrowband (AMR-NB) and respectivelyWideband (AMR-WB) codecs. While in a quiet environment the AMR-WB quality is clearly superior to the AMR-NB based TTS, it turns out that the difference in the perceived quality of the two systems tends to disappear in noise.
