Abstract:
Optical access systems currently being deployed in networks around the world are based either on switched (active) Ethernet technology or, more recently and with increasing interest from operators, on GPON or EPON standards for passive fiber plants. This paper focusses on potential future evolution paths of PON system technologies towards higher capacities for Next Generation Access (NGA), as they are now being discussed at standard bodies as well as in international research projects.
