Abstract:
A modification of four-component scattering power decomposition is proposed for polarimetric SAR image analysis based on the coherency matrix. The four-component consists of surface scattering, double bounce scattering, volume scattering, and helix scattering power. Although this decomposition scheme has been successfully applied to the Land X-band polarimetric SAR data, there exists a drawback that negative power appears in a few pixels in the image analysis. This paper modifies the decomposition scheme and shows its application to monitor seasonal change of wet a land area, lake “SAKATA”, Niigata, Japan. It is shown that the four-component powers derived by the modified decomposition scheme represent typical seasonal feature of vegetation near by the lake.
