Abstract:
The scope and purpose of the Sentinel-1 Mission is described in detail in a series of accompanying papers. This paper provides an overview of the SAR Antenna's mechanical & thermal design, highlighting some of the challenges regarding thermal control, structural dimensioning and selection of deployment mechanisms. The unique carbon-fibre waveguides technology is described. In addition, an overview over the environmental qualification test campaign is given. It should be noted that the antenna design is still a work in progress. Further design evolution will inevitably lead to a final configuration which differs at least in some detail from what is presented here.
