Abstract:
The high risk of exploration of oil and gas fields in the sea must expect the identical level of control and safety. At present such control can be supported and assured though satellite monitoring. In period from June 23 to July 5, 2007 Sakhalin Energy Ltd. was completing the installation of the PA-B production platform topsides on the base at the Piltun-Astokhskoye Field in the Sea of Okhotsk, northeast of Sakhalin. Multipurpose monitoring of this event based on acquisition of Envisat and Radarsat SAR imagery was mainly targeted on three problems: monitoring of ship’s activity, monitoring of related oil spills and extraction environmental parameters. By processing, combining and anlysing in GIS the data and information derived from SAR images, an accurate understanding of acivity during the tow-out, positioning and installation as well as environmental conditions was obtained in a cost effective manner.
