Abstract:
Broadcast services for cellular communication networks were discussed in the last years mainly with a focus on streaming applications like Mobile TV. Only little interest was paid to the fact that there are also many applications which demand a broadcast delivery of content in form of files. The 3GPP standards offer trough MBMS a technology framework to broadcast files to a large number of receivers. This paper will give a consolidated introduction on the MBMS technology for file delivery and the thereby used protocols. Furthermore we present a generic framework including client and server architecture to provide a flexible and fast deployment of services for file delivery via MBMS. To outline the possibilities of file transmission, we finally introduce two example applications.
