Abstract:
This paper presents a metal-mountable RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag antenna, which operates at the 902–928 MHz UHF band. The antenna has a simple, low-profile (1.8 mm thick) structure. It consists of two microstrip patches, which are positioned near each other by a narrow gap and driven by a high impedance microchip. We show simulation and measurement results including impedance, read range, and radiation pattern measurements. Impedance measurements are carried out by using a differential s-parameter method. Acceptable read range is approx. 10 m in free space and 4 m on metal.
