A common application of electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) is the reconstruction of permittivity distribution, where the shapes of objects in the measuring zone are unknown. The authors investigated different approaches to estimate and improve the reconstruction quality of reference objects with known shapes in a square sensing area based on simulation data. The reconstruction results allow successful determination of object positions with simple image processing techniques.
