Abstract:
Magnetic induction tomography (MIT) is a non-destructive testing technique for imaging the spatial distribution of electrical conductivity and/or magnetic permeability in the examined object. The signals obtained with the help of such a technique are extremely small, especially when imaging materials of low electrical conductivity. In order to provide the highest sensitivity the MIT system must be designed very carefully. An experimental MIT system has been built at the West Pomeranian University of Technology, Szczecin, Poland. In this paper we present a modern methodology for the design of an exciter which, by coupling the finite element method, genetic algorithm and multi-objective optimization procedure based on weighted sum method, gives the optimal design variables of the exciter and testing frequency.
