Abstract:
This paper presents the results of experimental undergraduate training on simulating IP (Internet Protocol) based networks, using Network Simulator version 2 (NS2) and its associated tools for simulation animation and analysis. An important objective of the training was to explore whether simulating IP networks should be introduced as a regular course in undergraduate studies curriculum. The main contributions of the paper are: introduction of an innovative methodology for teaching simulation of IP networks to undergraduates, a dynamically created outcome of more than 200 scripts for programming the NS2, and presentation of the experiences in education with the simulator NS2.
