In future offshore wind farms that feature an HVDC link to the utility grid ashore, the interconnection of turbines might be realized by means of a medium-voltage dc grid instead of a conventional three-phase ac distribution system. In this paper, a dc configuration with a central modular dc-dc converter will be presented. In particular, electrical losses of the power conversion components within the proposed configuration will be determined under full load and part load conditions. Furthermore, the efficiency of the dc solution will be compared to that of a conventional ac grid.
