Abstract:
SZ stranding of buffer tubes is a very well established technology in fiber optic cable manufacturing. SZ stranded cable combine very high mechanical flexibility with excellent mid span access capabilities when the reversal point is met. To simplify the mid span access the reversal point is sometimes marked on the cable sheath. This requires relatively complex manufacturing technology. This paper presents a stranding method which maintains the excellent mechanical performance of SZ stranded cables and provides easy access to the reversal points without using any switchback marking on/ underneath the cable sheath.
