The in-band optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) is a fundamental performance metric for WDM transmission systems. This paper presents a new approach for measuring the in-band OSNR which is based on the fact that synchronous data signals with a fixed symbol rate 1/T and the channel noise have different correlation properties.
