Abstract:
In this contribution several methods to model the group delay ripples of fiber-Bragg-gratings (FBGs) will be presented and compared. We will focus on the influence of FBG ripples on the signal quality in metro systems with high bit rates. Additionally, we analyze the use of optical transversal filter equalizers to reduce the occurring signal penalties. We will show that the maximum OSNR penalties for a 112 Gbit/s system with the duobinary modulation format of a cascade of several FBGs can be reduced from over 10 dB to less than 1.5 dB.
