Using SysML Diagrams for Safety Analysis with IEC 61508

Abstract:
Electronic, electrical and programmable electronic systems that perform safety related or safety critical functions need to be assessed with respect to safety within their development process. The safety requirements are fulfilled by safety functions. They can be modeled by block diagrams according to the IEC 61508. We present the generation of IEC 61508 block diagrams out of system modelling language (SysML) diagrams. SysML diagrams can be used in early phases of the development of systems. The main benefit of the rule based transformation from SysML diagrams in block diagrams is that the design model can easily be used as analysis model.
