Abstract:
For low-frequency (UHF/VHF, P and L band) spaceborne SAR systems, the ionospheric effects are the most significant problems. In this paper, the preliminary investigation of a technique aiming at using TEC information derived from PolSAR data to reduce the ionospheric effects was implemented and the TEC derivation was verified with six quad polarized ALOS/PALSAR data sets. In addition, the behaviour of Faraday rotation estimation from quad polarized ALOS/PALSAR data was evaluated as the pre-requisite step of the above technique by comparing with the GPS based true TEC data sets over different areas. The experiment shows that the TEC information can be derived from the quad-pol data reasonably over mid-latitude area.
