Abstract:
Arithmetic structures (adder, subtracter, multiplier, divider) are part of the majority of electronic signal-processing circuits. Electronic circuits, e.g. arithmetic structures, are prone to permanent and transient errors. Transient errors are caused e.g. by cosmic radiation. For this reason it is necessary to detect errors in arithmetic circuits. A new method for concurrent error detection in ripple-carry-adders is presented in this paper. Circuits designed with this method are totally self-checking with respect to single internal errors and needs less area overhead compared to known methods.
