Abstract:
In order to minimize undesirable conditions like peak loads and fluctuations due to a growing share of renewable energies in the future electric grid, a charging device that controls the battery charging process of electric vehicles from the grid side is presented. Based on autonomous and decentralized measurements of the grid state via the utility frequency, a communication-less form for a charging device is suggested. The grid sustaining property is due to a special charging algorithm, which adapts the charging process if the grid is in an overloaded state. Furthermore, by obeying the rules and regulations for charging and operating batteries, the state of health of the battery is taken into account. This article explains the concept and checks the feasibility of this charging device.
