Abstract:
Although the distances involved in Fibre To The Home networks are inevitably lower than those in long distance networks, there are still significant challenges in meeting optical loss budgets due to the high number of joints, flexibility points and in PON systems, splitters. This paper compares three methods of calculating loss budgets and shows how a statistical analysis of optical losses using Monte Carlo analysis based on component optical loss distributions can represent a real world simulation which enables the optimization of network design.
