Abstract:
The continuously increasing usage of automotive electronics and the application of automotive networks in safety critical applications make high reliable data transmission fundamental and indispensable. Automotive networks can be affected during all their life-time by permanent failures on their bus-wires. Networks and ECUs must consequently be designed in order to ensure robustness, reliability and self-diagnosis in all operative conditions. This paper analyzes failure detection methods for automotive bus systems, with respect to network parameter variations, design characteristics and external components. The analysis is based on analytical computations and numerical Spectre-simulations. The impact of the different parameters is separately analysed for the understanding of the global behaviour and their relationships with failure detection methods is highlighted.
