Abstract:
This paper gives an overview of various implemented applications with a highly integrated 77-GHz transceiver. First, the circuit block diagram of the chip is introduced, accompanied by the (measured) key performance parameters. Function and operating modes are described. The main section deals with flexible applications of the monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC). The first uses the chip in a 1-transmitter (TX) 3-receiver (RX) configuration to demonstrate the viability of mm-wave systems on a low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) substrate. The second example utilizes the switching of RX/transceiver (TRX) modes to synthesize a larger antenna array, using signal processing to significantly improve radar resolution. In the conclusion, an outlook over the potential of further integration in mm-wave circuits is given.
