Abstract:
High voltage power cables and their accessories are today typically operating at the upper limit of the permissible electric field strength of insulation materials. Reasons for this development are mostly economical factors and the continuing miniaturisation of high voltage equipment. Based on this, optimised stress control is mandatory for reliable operation. In this paper all these different existing stress control techniques are explained and compared. Their advantages and disadvantages are described and their behaviour at different operating conditions such as AC, DC and impulse voltage is shown. The following chapter shows the different possibilities and effects of testing stress control systems. Finally the trend in the field of electrical stress control systems in high voltage cables and their accessories is shown and an outlook for future applications is given.
