Abstract:
This paper examines polarimetric scattering characteristics from boundary between wetland water area and the surrounding emerged plants for accurately observing seasonal water area change of wetland in polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image analysis. The specific double-bounce scattering is considered as a useful marker for the distinction of the wetland water-emergent boundary. To verify the generating mechanism of the specific feature, the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) polarimetric scattering analysis is carried out for a simplified local boundary model. Consequently, it is confirmed from the analyses that the double-bounce scattering can be observed even for obliquely oriented and/or the sparse boundary case.
