An explicit formula for optimizing the factorisation parameters in the fast factorized backprojection algorithm is given. It is shown that the optimal factorisation basis is given by b = 3, whereas the optimal number of factorisation levels can be easily computed a priori. A numerical example illustrates the effectivity of the proposed choice.
