Abstract:
We address the development of SAR signal simulation in time domain to support sea surface observations with SAR images. Physical optics approximation is applied to calculate time series of microwave backscattering. As a foundation of the SAR signal simulation in oceanic scenes, a moving target and a regular wave cases have been simulated to confirm the modulation effect in the azimuth signal. The velocity bunching modulation due to orbital motions of ocean waves is shown in the simulated signal. The results show the time domain simulation technique is adaptable to generate numerical SAR images regarding to ocean waves.
