Abstract:
The presence of speckle noise in synthetic aperture radar ( SAR ) images affects their further application seriously. The most well known speckle filters are the local statistics filters whose coefficients are updated adaptively depending on the local statistics within a fixed sliding window. In this letter, we proposed a ratiobased adaptive windowing algorithm for speckle filtering, where the window size is automatically adjusted in four directions independently according to the ideas of the ratio edge detector. The final experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can get better performance in terms of the extent of the speckle suppression and the fine details preservation.
