Abstract:
This paper presents thermal management considerations for a multilayer stacked construction (Power Sandwich) of high power density industrial drive. The Power Sandwich industrial drive is built using novel x-dim components that have uniform height and SiC semiconductors. Different thermal management concepts suitable for single-sided and double-sided heat removal are developed and evaluated. The 2.2kW SiC-based industrial drive demonstrator is constructed in which the double-sided forced convection cooling using heat exhaust channels is applied. The drive has the power density of 3.8kW/l and operates at the temperatures below 50 degree C with no heat sinks.
