Abstract:
This paper describes the results of an evaluation study of IP audio streaming and Internet radio receiver capabilities for the possible replacement of DAB receivers in vehicles. Test drives have been conducted with two different test systems, a special GSM/UMTS receiver scenario and a smartphone scenario to acquire real world data, and following analysis of the received audio signals. The audio output of the two receivers has been recorded along with GPS position data and network traffic. The analysis of the captured audio was processed using in depth signal analysis based on MATLAB models. The results gained from this research show detailed histograms of muting times throughout test drives on various routes and the availability of mobile network connections. Finally the authors propose feasible service scenarios for future use of radio and Internet information in vehicles.
