Abstract:
A new topology for efficient utilization of parallel converters as VAR compensators and active power filters (APF) for high power loads is proposed. In this paper, a new method has been introduced for control of parallel active power filter that has been effective for VAR compensation, harmonic elimination and balancing the three phase unbalance currents. So that the power factor is developed and the current THO has got only a little (is well within the permissible limit of the IEEE-519 standard specification). A new control method has been based on active power measurement and it does not need to reactive power measurement. Analysis and simulations for this control method has been done with using a PSCAD/EMTDC simulator. Keywords - active power filter, THD, active power, reactive power
