Abstract:
The present study investigates on assessing the dielectric condition of an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) based power converter modules through partial discharge (PD) measurements and frequency dependent dielectric properties. A few samples of IGBT based modules that have passed/qualified as ‘fit’ via accelerated reliability tests are selected for the present study. Following this, the selected test samples (IGBT modules) are subjected to partial discharge (PD) measurements. Depending upon PD level and their respective phase resolve PD (PRPD) pattern, the test samples are qualitatively ranked as ‘good’ and ‘faulty’ respectively. Subsequently, the frequency dependent dielectric properties of the IGBT modules are obtained and analysed.
