Abstract:
This paper presents the theoretical analysis on the light/tissue interaction for the transcutaneous optical telemetric link (TOTL). The performance of various TOTL system based on different optical carrier wavelength are investigated and 800 to 1000 nm system shows to be optimum in terms of overall transceiving power efficiency. The light/tissue interaction is further analyzed via (1) the Monte Carlo method and (2) the Gaussian model approximation. Given the system specification, the presented work provides the designer an easy way that handles the complexity in the TOTL design with respect to the carrier wavelength, transmitter/receiver misalignment, tissue thickness as well as the receiver size.
