Abstract:
A system using two-dimensional extended quadratic congruence/ prime-hop sequence codes is proposed for monitoring passive optical networks with large splitting ratios. The system requires just a single fiber Bragg grating in each optical network unit. Falsealarm probability of the system is obtained and compared with previously proposed systems. In order to show the feasibility of the codes optical encoders have been fabricated based on fibre Bragg gratings (FBG). We show the spectral and temporal properties of these purely passive optical encoders and present first results in a multi-user network with up to eight users.
