Abstract:
Two algorithms for soft authentication and correction of images are introduced in this paper. The proposed algorithms correct a certain number of transmission errors in the image and tolerate a modest number of errors. They give error correction and authentication with a certain degree of noise tolerance. Both of the algorithms have error localization capability, thus they reject only erroneous/unauthentic parts of the image and correct or authenticate the remaining parts. Thus the need for retransmissions of the complete image is reduced. This property is especially useful in real-time communications. It is better to obtain a part of the authentic image than to have no image at all. An analysis of the proposed algorithms is given, and simulation results are presented to show their error localization and correction capabilities. Keywords – image authentication; reliability values; soft authentication; security; robustness; noise tolerance.
