Abstract:
In this paper, a novel boost-buck converter is proposed to replace the conventional four-switch buck-boost converter. The proposed converter utilizes a step-up switched-capacitor converter followed by a synchronous buck converter. The paper discusses the design of each converter in the two-stage boost-buck system. Simulation results have shown that the proposed converter operates at one mode most of the time, which avoid the transients due to non-smooth transition among multi-modes. The proposed boost-buck is capable of supplying a maximum load current of 0.7A for input range between 2.7V to 4.2V while capable of producing a wide output voltage that ranges between 0.7V and 90% of the double of input voltage.
