Abstract:
This paper makes a comparison of conventional shelters running on Diesel Generators and state of the art Hybrid DC power systems on telecom infrastructure in emerging countries. Conventional telecom shelters are often diesel powered 24 hours a day consuming high amounts of energy for small radio loads. Steady rising diesel costs and CO2 pollution resulting in high pressure on mobile operators. Plug and play Hybrid DC power systems consisting of a low energy, passively cooled outdoor cabinet and an independent PV-DC power supply can reduce the energy consumption by up to 87% and CO2 by over 40 t per site annually using solar energy as the primary source of power.
