Abstract:
We investigate the performance of long-haul wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) communication systems employing phase insensitive fiber optic parametric amplifiers (FOPA) for inline amplification. We develop a mathematical model to investigate the nonlinear cross-talks caused by FOPA and compare it with the nonlinear effects of transmission fibers. The model is verified with simulations and it is shown that FOPAs can be successfully used in long haul DWDM communication systems with a low penalty compared to EDFAs.
