Abstract:
In 2020, mobile and wireless traffic volume is expected to increase a thousand-fold over the next decade. Moreover, the massive growth in the connected devices will introduce a wide range of new more machine-oriented applications. In particular, the coexistence of these machine-type and human-centric applications will lead to a large diversity of communication characteristics imposing different requirements on mobile and wire-less communication systems, e.g. in terms of cost, complexity, energy dissipation, and service requirements. In this paper, we present the way METIS (Mobile and wireless communications Enablers for the Twenty-twenty Information Society) project intend to address the future challenges of the information connected society.
