Abstract:
This paper presents a new 1000 V / 1 MVA three level NPC voltage source converter based on standard three level IGBT modules. It explains how the converter is set up as PEBB Type 2 with integrated modulators. Major problems of the serial bus based modulators and the solutions are discussed. Detailed information on the working principle of the DC-link balancing and the short-circuit protection is given as well as measurement results of the operating demonstrator.
