Abstract:
This paper presents a multibeam antenna array composed of H-plane SIW horn antennas working at the Kuband. In order to create a low-profile system, a novel design for SIW horns has been used, which allow building these antennas in substrates thinner than lambda0/10. Aiming to implement a fully integrated system, a multilayer transition between SIW horns and microstrip lines compatible with encapsulated MMICs is also proposed. A prototype of a three-element SIW horn antenna array was also manufactured validating the proposed concepts. This thin, compact and light weight antenna array represents a really good candidate for multibeam scenarios covering the azimuthal plane. In particular, for vehicular applications where the weight and reduction of the drag are key points.
