Abstract:
This paper presents a wideband variable-gain amplifier implemented in a standard 90 nm CMOS process. The variable gain is obtained thanks to a variable resistive network whereas the broad bandwidth is achieved thanks to an active feedback chain and a cascade topology. The VGA has been measured and shows a gain which can be set between -2 and 25.5 dB in a continuous way and a 3 dB bandwidth larger than 4.9 GHz for all gain levels. The overall occupied chip area is 0.43 mm2 pad included, with an active area of 0.14 mm2 only.
