Abstract:
This paper presents the results of the channel capacity measurements for a 4-element printed MIMO antenna system. The MIMO antenna consists of CSRR loaded patch elements and occupies a total space of 100×50×0.8 mm3. It is designed to operate in the 2.45 GHz ISM band. The channel capacity is evaluated by measuring the channel coefficient matrix in an indoor LOS and NLOS environment. The performance of the printed antenna is compared with an ideal 4-element MIMO system, SISO system and a standard array of 4 monopole antennas. The printed antenna shows higher channel capacity performance compared to a SISO system. The system exhibits an average channel capacity of 8.9 bits/sec/Hz at a SNR of 20 dB in the indoor environment.
