Abstract:
This paper presents a very simple dielectric resonator antenna with dual bands. The antenna covers the WLAN 5 GHz band. The antenna consists of a rectangular dielectric resonator manufactured from a high dielectric low loss transparent glass material. The dielectric resonator antenna is placed on a microstrip line with a perpendicular strip. This modified feed structure introduces another resonance while at the same time not affecting the first resonance and hence enables dual band operation. The proposed antenna is simple to manufacture and compact in size. The fabricated antenna has -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 18%, fully covering the frequency from 5.15 GHz to 5.95 GHz for Hiperlan. The simulated and measured return loss and radiation patterns are shown and discussed.
