Abstract:
Some questions that arise from the use of polarimetric SAR interferometry (PolInSAR) to retrieve vegetation structural parameters by using model-based techniques are considered in this work. First, limitations and inconsistencies observed in the solutions obtained in similar scenarios are discussed and interpreted in terms of the outputs of the Freeman-Durden decomposition for interferometric data. Second, we provide a simple procedure to distinguish between vegetated scenes corresponding to random volumes and those in which orientation effects cannot be discarded.
