Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the capability of hybrid polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data for rice mapping. Linear polarization ratio (muL) is analysed on the basis of reflection symmetry, and is also demonstrated to behave similarly to the HH/VV polarization ratio, which has been widely used in crop mapping. Degree of linear polarization (PL) shows great potential in rice mapping as well. In addition, temporal variation of muL and PL are analysed and the relationship between the polarimetric parameters and biophysical parameters are also explored. Images acquired by Radarsat-2 at C-band is used in our experiments to demonstrate the analytical method.
