Abstract:
This paper describes relatively simple and inexpensive methods for acquisition of Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) images of ships and aircraft, facilitated by Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B), respectively. AIS and ADS-B messages transmitted from the targets are utilized for aiming the radar, identifying the targets and aiding the data processing and analysis. Experiments have been carried out with the SAR system PicoSAR. ISAR images of ships have been produced from data collected with PicoSAR in a helicopter, and aircraft have been imaged with PicoSAR ground based.
