Abstract:
Since the development of mobile networks and the introduction of Smartphones and other IP based communications like Machine to Machine (M2M) communication increases the need for IP address space in mobile networks enhances. The need to move to nearly unlimited address space by using IPv6 technologies is one of the challenges seen at large mobile network operators today. This paper discusses limitations of the IPv4 address space, and presents migration strategies to IPv6-only specialized on the requirements of mobile networks. The results have been derived from theoretical and practical evaluation based on current and medium term system implementations.
